The anticipation about The Game Awards was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
