Together Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

We present a test for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy scary movies: Sit down with your loved one and stream Together. This independent film success of 2025 just made its online premiere via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like standard body horror, but inside Together exists a deep examination about the ways we decide to love each other.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the debut feature-length film for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, the two stars infuse a special spark to their characters, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The story commences when Tim and Millie relocate from the metropolis to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s primarily where the tropes conclude. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the partnership as it is a movie featuring biological frights.

A Paranormal Spark

While walking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the two discover an subterranean cavern. After being trapped overnight there and finally finding a way out, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, interspersing moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but never too gross) body horror, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components seamlessly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is exclusively the two lead actors, and they deftly portray manifold depths to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and distant from his support system. He fears the notion of completely losing his personal autonomy in another person. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he can’t drive and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in this movie avoids making either of his characters the obvious villain.

Both characters face the type of challenges that arise in any relationship after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They share moments of joy, offer support, and are vulnerable at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism avoids being overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these visceral horror elements offer a brilliant analogue to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama serve the other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that unattached audience members have understood the narrative as a strong argument for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples having disagreements found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a great barometer of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply turn to your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an exploration you can embark on right now.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
